Reduce Toxicity Risk Through Reliable Arsenic Screening

Arsenic Determination by ISO 2590 (Silver Diethyldithiocarbamate Photometric Method)

Arsenic is a naturally occurring element that can be found in raw materials, industrial chemicals, mineral products, and various manufactured goods. Even at low concentrations, arsenic contamination can present significant health, environmental, and regulatory concerns. Accurate monitoring and control of arsenic levels are therefore essential to ensure product safety, quality, and compliance with applicable standards.

At Wimpey Laboratories, arsenic determination is performed in accordance with ISO 2590, utilizing the Silver Diethyldithiocarbamate Photometric Method, a recognized analytical technique for the determination of trace levels of arsenic in industrial and chemical samples.

How the Test Works

The method is based on the conversion of arsenic present in the sample into arsine gas (AsH₃) under controlled acidic conditions. The generated arsine gas is then absorbed into a silver diethyldithiocarbamate solution, where it reacts to form a distinct red-colored complex.

The intensity of the developed color is directly proportional to the arsenic concentration in the sample. Using UV-Visible Spectrophotometry, the absorbance is measured at approximately 540 nm and compared against calibration standards to accurately determine the arsenic content.

Test Details

  • Standard: ISO 2590
  • Technique: UV-Visible Spectrophotometry
  • Analyte: Arsenic (As)
  • Detection Principle: Arsine generation followed by silver diethyldithiocarbamate color development and spectrophotometric measurement

Applications

Arsenic screening is widely used for the analysis of:

  • Industrial chemicals and chemical products
  • Raw materials and minerals
  • Salt and inorganic compounds
  • Manufacturing inputs and intermediate products
  • Quality control and compliance verification samples
  • Industrial process materials requiring trace element monitoring

Why Arsenic Screening is Important

Monitoring arsenic levels is a critical component of product safety and quality assurance programs. Regular testing helps manufacturers, suppliers, and regulatory stakeholders identify potential contamination risks before products enter the market or production processes.

Benefits of Arsenic Screening

✔ Reduces Toxicity Risk
Identifies the presence of arsenic contamination and helps prevent potential health and environmental hazards.

✔ Supports Regulatory Compliance
Assists organizations in meeting industry standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.

✔ Enhances Product Quality
